Great Event Last Night!

Connie and I were READY for a GNO and got an invite from our friend and master colorist Caryn Briggs (she knows EVERYONE so we like to play a game 7 degrees of Ryn) to this great event to get ready for spring.  Ryn won botox, a tatoo gift certificate and something else it was getting a little ridiculous.  I won some delicious coffee and bought the most amazing top from Taste for $24.00.  We enjoyed meeting some fellow entrepreneurs like Christy Annis from Peas for Prosperity and reconnecting with Stephanie Davis from Skirt Magazine which is now available on-line.  There were mini-massages and manicures from Spa Sydell and food from Loca Luna, the Melting Pot and others.  Great event, and great night out!

Aid to Haiti

I know that we have all been saddened by the events in Haiti.  The news coverage is heartbreaking and it feels like there is so much to be done – it can all be overwhelming.  Our friend BreeAnne from Tiny Revolutionary has put together a clothing drive which will allow all of us to contribute clothes and shoes which she will send to Haiti.  Please help her if you can.  Also don’t forget that you can Text HAITI to 90999 to donate $10.00 to the Red Cross.

The World’s Most Decadent Brownies

imagesWe had a very important meeting on Wednesday and it went very well.  We were incredibly prepared, had a great presentation (thank you Connie) and knew our stuff (thank you Susan Herzog) we also brought along a secret weapon that I am going to share with you.  These aren’t just brownies, they will get your prickly mother in law to love you, they will get you that ring you’ve been waiting for, they will make your children behave and they will turn a date into the love of your life.  What I’m saying here is use them carefully!

The recipe comes from Ghiradelli I always double or triple it and I add Jack’s Harvest Sweet on Broccoli for extra moistness and veggies!

Here is a link to the recipe Classic Chocolate Brownie.  Add three cubes per batch to your chocolate and butter and melt all three together and add about 3 TBL more flour.  I promise you have never tasted anything like these!  Happy Weekend.

Some Helpful Green Cleaning Tips

So, I cannot convince my husband that it is easier to put a paper towel over the food that you are reheating in the microwave than to try to scrape the dried bits of food from all four walls.  Since our microwave looks like a crime scene right now, I got out the white vinegar and used a great trick to loosen the grime and make it easier to clean.  He was really impressed with this trick so I thought I’d share it with you!

images

Here’s what you do…

  • Put two cups of white vinegar in a glass or ceramic bowl and nuke it for 2 mins.
  • Stand away from the door when you open the microwave as you will be hit with some heavy duty vinegar smell.
  • All the stains in the micro will be loosened up and all you have to do is wipe with a towel!

Also here is another great trick for cleaning up smelly disposals and keeping your pipes free of debris.

  • Pour a cup of baking soda in the sink as if you were pouring it down the drain,
  • Put two cups of white vinegar in a glass or ceramic bowl and nuke it for 2 mins.
  • Pour the hot vinegar over the baking soda and watch it bubble, let sit for 10 minutes and then run cold water and the disposal.

It is kinda fun to watch the baking soda and vinegar react, I know we should get out more, but the kiddos fight over who gets pour the vinegar and they all crowd around to watch it bubble!

images-1Third tip of the day is a great way to get rid of and prevent mold in your shower without resorting to bleach.

  • Add 20 drops of tea tree oil to a 32 oz spray bottle of water.  Spray and let sit overnight for tough mildew and then just leave in the shower and spray the stall after each use.
  • Tea tree oil is brilliant and works on everything from mold and mildew to poison ivy.

Happy Cleaning!

Happy Martin Luther King Day as well!

New Year’s Resolutions and Other Mythical Creatures

This is the first year that I didn’t make a New Year’s Resolution, but that is just because I have been working so hard all year to improve my health and fitness it just seemed insulting to reiterate it on January 1st!  The gym is crowded and I have gotten about 2,000 discount cards in the mail from Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers.  The one thing I have learned this year is that moderation is the key – I have learned to eat mindfully, exercise on a regular basis, drink a lot of water and not deprive myself.  I also have started meditating, journaling and other coping techniques so that I don’t get the overwhelming urge at the end of a tough day to tear into the candy drawer. In order to support everyone’s goal of being healthier and therefore happier here is a great smoothie recipe.  Happy New Year or as Connie’s husband says “It’s 2010 Suck It In!”

Tango With Mango Morning Protein Smoothie

6 ounces Vanilla Organic Yogurt

8 ounces Tango With Mango Cubes

1 Scoop Vanilla Flavored Whey Protein

1 Tsp Flax Seed Oil

1 1/4 cups Vanilla Soy Milk

1/4 cup Pineapple Juice

Blend all until smooth!  Enjoy!
