Ok all you super creative Jack’s Harvest fans, sharpen your pencils and get to work on coming up with a new name for our latest flavor sensation created by Richard Blais Top Chef alumni, Chef of one of my all time favorite restaurants Flip home of the Southern burger a completely decadent and delicious burger that is country fried and topped with pimento cheese and served with homemade pickles on a grilled bun (OMG – I really need one of those right now).
I’m back from Flip and ready to finish this post. So here’s the deal, I became friends with Richard on Facebook (my issues with FB are for another post, but I will cop to having a bit of an obsession) and he wrote a post about feeding his daughter Riley and I thought, hey, why don’t I ask him if he wants to make a flavor of Jack’s Harvest, he did and the rest is as they say, history.
Now the flavor is complete and I LOVE it and ate most of my first test batch by myself. It is composed of Cauliflower, Pear, Quinoa, cinnamon, vanilla and tumeric. It tastes much like a really creamy rice pudding .
Here’s where you come in dear readers, this flavor needs a name and we want you to vote on what you think it should be. Feel free to also write in if you have a better idea. We are always open to creativity!
Here are the choices:
Trail Blasin’ Quinoa
Cauli-Flower Power
Keen on Quinoa
So go to the Jack’s Harvest Facebook fan page and
- Become and fan if you aren’t already (shame on you).
- VOTE! It’s your right!

We were proud vendors at the Jayneoni Moore’s Boom Boom Room: The Baby Issue Event. We set up a table with samples of Papplesauce, Mango and Pear and some of my soon to be famous Sweet On Broccoli Brownies. When we got there I don’t think we understood how much fun it was going to be or that we would have as much interest in the other vendors as in the attendees. I am going to be highlighting a bunch of the new baby products that we tested, tried and were educated about in this blog over the next few weeks so all you new and expecting parents take note – there are some really cool gadgets out there – much better than what they had in the dark ages when I had my kids!
Here are some fun photos from the event. We got to meet Ana Ortiz also know as Ugly Betty’s older sister. She and her daughter Paloma were absolutely charming and adorable and I really think Paloma and I had a connection! The papplesauce was a huge hit with Paloma and her mom seemed to really dig the brownies.

So our friend Jennifer from Georgia Organics told us about a great use for our Jack’s Harvest flavor Go Bananas With A Cherry. She uses the puree to make these amazing little balls of joy! Here is a link to the ebelskiver maker (say that three times fast!) from Williams Sonoma and of course you can get Jack’s Harvest at any of our retailers or on-line through Amazon !

Jamie Oliver is bringing common sense and moderation back to the American diet and school meal in a big way. He has already launched this initiative in the UK with amazing results. The American diet is laden with simple carbohydrates, processed and pre-packaged food and is severely lacking in vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lean proteins. Our schools are one of the biggest offenders which makes no sense as a well nourished child has a brain that is functioning at a much higher rate than a child who is stuffed full of saturated fats, high fructose corn syrup and fried foods. It is no surprise that when the cafeterias offer fresh, nutritious foods, test scores rise, behavior infraction go down and children learn better. Jamie is traveling the country educating parents, schools and kids about how to make healthy changes and how to make better nutritional decisions.
We have to wake up and realize that chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese are not staples of a healthy diet. They certainly are fine once in a while, but we decide what is presented on the table – not the kids. If they realize that this is dinner and that they aren’t going to get something else they will eat what they are served. I know that I was not given the choice of another meal beside the one my mother prepared. I wouldn’t have even dared to ask. I ate what I was served and since we ate a lot of fruits and vegetables I loved them and still do.
Go to Jamie’s website, it is chock full of great information about how to change the food you eat, your kid’s eat and your school serves. Sign the petition while you are there! http://www.jamieoliver.com/campaigns/jamies-food-revolution/petition
